Dorian Haqmoun Keller was born in Switzerland. He studied special education in Zurich and art in Basel. In 1988 he moved to London where he taught art and had his own studio.
In 2004/5 he spent four months in Egypt as artist in residence. After over two years back in England he has moved to Cairo in 2007. He now dedicates his life full-time to painting and photography. His art is inspired by Islamic architecture and Sufism.
Artist’s Statement
My most recurring theme is the gate. I am deeply drawn to the gates and passages seen in mosques and other buildings of the Islamic world.
The gate has a deeper meaning for me: it is the place between an outer and an inner space, a doorway leading into a world that can only be imagined, the quiet realms of color in my paintings filled with the sound of unheard music.
Cairo is full of countless inspiration and I’m happy to be here.
